ISAW is a popular street food from the Philippines, made from barbecued pig or chicken intestines.
Heart cliche Isaw is love.
When I arrived in Manila, this is the first thing I asked papa E to buy. Yes, as I've said cowboy ako. I don't even see a point why I should say, "Yuck I don't eat ..what's that again? Isaaawww? Eeeewww!". I do not eat chicken isaw but I totally dig barbequed pig intestines. Disgusting foods to some is a delicacy to some. SG don't have this, too bad tsk tsk. This is truly tatak pinoy food. Gross as it may appeal to some but if they are cleaned and cooked thoroughly naman i guess it won’t cause you any trouble unless na lang if hindi napapasukan ng germs ang katawan mo teh? Oh well, if maarte talaga but you crave for this street food, i would suggest that you do it at home, clean and cook it yourself. Heck, you lose the thrill of it. Going to the street, waiting in queue just to chew on them, absorb and inhale the smoke... Panalo! Besides, the bitter taste is not a fecal matter…it is the lining of the intestine called lumen. Fecal matters don’t stay in the intestine right? Food goes right through there , sucks all the nutrients, then digested and the rest is history. I may be no expert but that's just IMO. Let me stand corrected please if you may. Just make sure you don't eat this everyday ha. Though life is too short, enjoy every second of it but do not forget to take good care of your health as well! Pa-insure ka muna ha kuya!
I asked our suki street vendor:
Me: "Manang, ano po sikreto ng isaw nyo.. almost 2 decades na kayo dito wala pa ring tumatalo sa inyo?"
Manang: "Sows, nililinis lang namin mabuti, tsaka tinder labing keyr".
Yun oh! Ka-swerteng mga isaw.
