From Manila to Bangkok and now in Singapore. Yes, Belle and Beast has indeed landed in Singapore for the International Tour of the Broadway Musical, Beauty and the Beast

A quintessential Disney masterpiece, the Beauty and the Beast Musical started amusing Singapore audiences on its opening night held just last week, and I was not surprised if it was extended this early until the 3rd of May, 2015. The entire musical is overflowing with wit, charm and an impeccable execution that makes the whole play totally afresh.

The sporadically well-written and spoken witty lines kept the whole show burning with mixed emotions. Besides the plush costumes, one would notice the flawless musical and stage direction; as it is fast-paced and well-managed, talkin’ bout smooth transition for the full 3 hours or so.

It leaves the audience laughing and crying simultaneously, I myself find that my heart is like nothing as a vase brimming with too much blooms to share. Call it cliche, but there are no other words to describe Beauty and the Beast but magical and enchanting. The classic story has undoubtedly held its audiences captive all throughout the show.

Beauty and the Beast flaunts the classic tale of unconditional love and kindness. Belle (Hilary Maiberger) who falls in love  with the Beast (Darick Pead), in spite of his physical appearance, period. Unless you have been living under a rock, you will find my last sentence too absurd for a fairy tale plot. Simply put, this is a proof that innocent love still exists in this modern day world.  The characters  know how to inject vitality in their designated dialogues, Disney has done yet another fantastic job casting, choosing and moulding this US cast. They did a solid performance for BATB.

The bookish and brave Belle (Hilary Maiberger), her voice is freakin’ crystal clear, not a moment that I flinched and had a tough time trying to figure out the words coming out from her mouth. The Beast, ill-tempered at first but finally managed to love and let go –  his portrayal was not too soppy, so there isn’t any chance for boredom to seep in.

I got a list below of the few must – watch scenes from Beauty and the Beast Broadway Musical:

Scene-Stealer GASTON (Adam Dietlein). Certified douchebag but he is dreamy alright. The love triangle between Gaston, Belle and the Beast is incomparable to other broadway musical plays. Watch out for Gaston’s character transition from beginning to end. He breathes arrogance and excessive vanity runs through his veins, his being cocky and chauvinistic makes him a definite scene-stealer.

Metal Beer Mug-Clanking. Looks easy when you watch this part, but it took a lot of practice for the team to execute this. Synchronicity, coordination and focus, that’s what made them click err, clink.

Be Our Guest. Designs and costumes were in full blast, this is where you will find them most striking. Mind you, this scene is 8 minute long and you will somehow wish it never came to an end.  It’s like you were being transported to Vegas!

Household / Castle Staff Characters. Humans turned into household objects brought about by their spell: Cogsworth (pendulum clock), Lumiere (candelabra), Mrs. Potts (teapot), Chip the Teacup, Babette (feather duster), a marvellous team up of the Beast’ quirky (and naughty!) household members. They did a brilliant job in making the audience roll with laughter. This is the bread and butter of the musical in my opinion, the rapport and spur of this musical phenomenon is what filled up the Marina Bay Sands Grand Theater…or any other broadway theater per se.

As early as now, due to popular demand they got extended til 03 May 2015. Beauty & the Beast is more than the classic tale of love~ it has the musical wit and ingenuity that adults would definitely get to enjoy ‘more’. Watch out for the rest of the characters, they will make your time and money worthwhile. I’d watch it over and over again if I got the chance to!

The childhood nostalgic feels; a reminder that in this digital age, there is still room for innocent love-tale as old as time, right?
