Bio-Oil Rosken Skin Repair Bio Serum Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil Skincare Oil Review & Comparison
I used to swear before that never in my lifetime I'd slather any form of oil on my face. I thought it would just give me spots, breakouts, clogged pores to the point that you can put a slice of prosciutto on mah face and it'd get cook in a minute or two.
But one day I found myself spending huge amount of money buying a bottle of argan oil and got hooked on it. But before that, I had initially tried these 3 brands which by and by nabbed a spot in my beauty arsenal.
Dubious about skincare oils? You are not alone. I once got the oil-phobia too. Walking along our office corridors with a shimmy shiny forehead wasn't part of my career agenda anyway.

Whatever you might wanna call these oils - body oil, serum, face oil, I hope this post would somehow help you which oil you need to apply in certain parts of your body or face and from there, let's both hope for the best. And I'm sorry to break your bubble but coconut oil is not a part of my list.
What made me decide to try skincare oils finally?
Blame those alcohol-based cleansers. They made my skin extremely dry and sensitive. The most tricky part of using oils? Not all oils are the same. There are some which are suited for my body but bad for my face; on the other hand, what works best for my body might wreak havoc on your face - get it? All you need is a full bag of patience in testing these oils out, that is if you really wanna incorporate them in your skincare routine. What we do not really realize is that our skin actually needs oil! It needs it that it secretes it. Having an oily face sucks so it's either you have an effective skincare routine that holds up to this shitz.
here are the brands that helped beat my so-called oil-phobia and i've broken them down for you according to areas of application, packaging, the cons and the whatnot.
Best for Hair & Bath/Shower (even Brows!)
rosken skin repair bio serum
This brand claims to be an intensive treatment skincare oil that when used regularly helps to reduce and treat stretch marks, scarring, uneven skin tone, dry and ageing skin. Price: $12.90 / 50ml
WHAT I USE IT MAINLY FOR: Tames unwanted frizzy, flyaway hair. Here's a tip: Apply to dry ends so as not to weigh down the hair and avoid the oily roots.
Got bangs or those baby hairs? I think this will work well to naturally texturize your fringe in a jiffy and bring your stubbornly fine and wispy hairs to capitulation.
PACKAGING/SCENT/CONSISTENCY: Flip-top cap. The plastic bottle has a smaller (but raised nozzle!) dispensing hole compared to Bio-Oil but I hate it as much. So what I do is transfer it to a spray bottle and makes the application much more easier. It doesn't make my clothes greasy as well and I don't have to wait for ages just for the oil to be fully absorbed by my skin. Slightly runny with a faint lavender scent.
WORKS BEST WHEN: You just step out of the shower with those dew drops - spritz this onto your skin, massage it in, this applies like a dream. Easily absorbed and skin feels extra smooth to the touch. I ditched using body butter because of this and I had no regrets. If you do not possess the patience for those thick lotions, this is for you.
TRIED ON FACE? Yes! Loved it. Lightweight and loving the lavender scent.
WORKED ON STRETCH MARKS? Not for me. No difference at all - no fading, no nothing.
BONUS USAGE TIPS: Did I mention I apply it on my brows too? Apply a small amount on your brow hairs, not the skin underneath them alright? Sometimes I pour some on my eyebrow spoolie to have a more even application.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Of all the 3, this one wins for that no oil-feel. Rosken tops my list as it leans more on the dry-oil category. Note that this is priced slightly lower than Bio-Oil and Palmer's.
Best for the Body & Burns : bio-oil
This brand is known for vanishing those stretch marks and scars, helps improve the appearance of uneven skin time, dry and aging skin. Price: $15.50 / 60ml
WHAT I USE IT MAINLY FOR: Lightening my stretchmarks. An oil that can vanish stretchmarks? That's some bull right so my hopes weren't high on that one. But was surprised that it somehow managed to lighten them, you won't even notice they were there.
PACKAGING/SCENT/CONSISTENCY: Hate the screw-twist-cap packaging! I can't seem to control the amount of product it dispenses. It has a mild floral scent to it and has a heavier oil feel to it.
WORKS BEST WHEN: Applied on the body - particularly legs, elbows, heels and love handles! Takes time to sink in; I need to wait a couple of minutes else I'd be shimmy shiny or it will just rub onto my clothes. If Rosken Bio Serum makes my skin smoother to the touch, this works double-time. Not only is my skin smoother, I noticed it has became much softer, more pillowy in my opinion- if that even makes sense. The application needs more tolerance tho but hey, anything for vanity, yes?
TRIED ON FACE? Yup sure did, as a night time moisturizer but I can't take the heavy feel of it. I also feel that it leaves a gunky film on my face. I wasn't a fan since I also got a few hives or those small bumps from it. I just didn't notice any hoo-haa effect so there, Bio-Oil is exclusively applied to my stretch marks. As for the scars, I can't vouch much as I've never really tried applying as my scars usually tend to heal real fast.
WORKED ON STRETCH MARKS? Totally did not cease but it lightened mine. That came with a very religious application - from morning til night, twice a day. It has no off putting smell so that's a plus.
BONUS USAGE TIPS: I also had minor (tolerable) burns from hot water spills before and this one soothed it. Not so sure if it also prevented it from leaving a dark patch but I do not recall putting any other creams then. I've never gotten any burning scar so this is just perfect for my oh you know, clumsy days.
Best for the Face & Fingers : palmer's Cocoa butter formula skin therapy oil
This brand is known for helping to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, dry, damaged skin, uneven skin tone, aging skin, fine lines and wrinkles. Price: $15.90 / 60ml
WHAT I USE IT MAINLY FOR: The one oil that my face loved! This one melts right in, gotta love how it dries real fast. Even safe enough to use during daytime as my foundation adhered well to my skin whenever I use this after my cleanser. Just dab a few teeny weeny spots on your t-zone area and pat gently. I NEVER massage as I have noticed that it makes my skin greasy looking? Dafuq rite? Not sure what kind of sorcery was that, but it was just me. At night, I apply this on my fingers too and it exterminates my wrinkled and dry skin, noice!
PACKAGING/SCENT/CONSISTENCY: Same with Rosken, a flip-top platic type witht that capital A-nnoying hole. The slim, squarish bottle makes it easier to hold compared to the stout ones like Bio-Oil.
WORKS BEST WHEN: Applied on the body - particularly legs, elbows, love handles! Takes time to sink in; I need to wait a couple of minutes else I'd be shimmy shiny or it will just rub onto my clothes. If Rosken Bio Serum makes my skin smooth to the touch, this works double-time. Not only is my skin smoother, I noticed it has became much softer, more pillowy in my opinion- if that even makes sense. The application needs more tolerance tho but hey, anything for vanity, yes?
TRIED ON FACE? Yes, for about a week just because it smells like chocolate to me and I went on dreaming of churros for a couple of nights and end up chewing on my pillows.
WORKED ON STRETCH MARKS? Nadah on this - or maybe I was just too hooked on using my BIO-OIL that I was not able to give this a fair trial? #guiltyascharged
BONUS USAGE TIPS: I've been applying this on to my nose and somehow it softens up my pores prior to doing my weekly exfoliation. I think even my blackheads want to jump right off my nose easily cause of this haha!
IN A NUTSHELL
When I had finally tried to embrace the beauty of skincare oils, I never expected them to be just right under my nose. These brands are readily available at every drugstore in town ( I usually get mine from WATSON/GUARDIAN) and I got more than what I needed. Who would've thought they can help taming brows, soothing burns and even soften up my blackheads?
Oils have so much amazing benefits so stop fearing them.Do you have your favorite skincare oil or still confined with oil-phobia?
Thanks for looking ♡
